Perhaps the best thing about season two of The Last of Us is watching it with someone who hasn’t played the game. You can’t possibly prepare for what’s coming—but at least gamers already know. Those who only watch the show have no idea about the emotional train wreck that’s about to hit them—and it seems that moment came sooner than expected.
Since episode one, fans have been dreading the infamous golf club scene. The show’s high quality, plus Pedro Pascal’s unforgettable performance as Joel, only made the wait more intense. Most expected the moment would come later, since season two won't cover the entire Part II game. But Abby swung early—and hit a hole in one.
In the final moments of the season two premiere, we see Abby and her group arrive in Jackson County, Wyoming. What follows is as brutal as in the game: Abby corners Joel and kills him with a golf club in an act of revenge. The scene was raw, intense, and emotionally devastating—brought to life by phenomenal acting.
Even fans who knew what was coming were left shattered. One Reddit comment said,
“Like tomorrow is going to be a literal day of mourning. Ima drag myself into work like ‘NO your email does NOT find me well.’”
Another said,
“I didn’t play the game and I was NOT emotionally prepared for that. Until the last second, I thought he’d escape somehow. Damn, what a gut punch.”
Someone else added,
“It was a rough scene, and I’m a tough person ready to see blood and death. I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t play the game. I knew it’d be serious but… damn.”
Honestly, whether or not you’ve played the game doesn’t matter. That scene is going to hit you like a bloater at full speed.
