As part of the settlement, Apple maintained its denial of any wrongdoing or liability related to the allegations. However, the company has agreed to allocate $95 million to compensate U.S. users whose conversations were collected by Siri without prior consent. Compensation will range from $5 to $20 per device including the digital assistant.
The settlement also includes Apple's commitment to better inform users about their data collection options and clarify the measures taken to protect privacy. Additionally, the company has agreed to delete all unauthorized stored voice recordings.
The lawsuit originated from a class action filed five years ago, accusing Siri of eavesdropping on conversations of users with Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, HomePods, and other products.
