Indian media outlets have reported the outbreak of a mysterious brain-related illness in the Jammu and Kashmir regions, resulting in the deaths of 17 people, including 13 children, in a remote village.
According to the Press Trust of India, the fatalities occurred in Badhal village, located in the Rajouri district of Jammu, since the beginning of December. Authorities have taken precautionary measures by isolating approximately 230 villagers.
Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, Dean of the Government Medical College in Rajouri, stated that all the deceased showed signs of severe brain and nervous system damage. He also noted that health authorities have canceled winter vacations for medical staff to address the escalating health crisis. The victims were reportedly from three interrelated families.
Preliminary investigations by the federal government indicate that the deaths were not caused by viral or bacterial infections but rather by exposure to a toxic substance.
Health Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed that extensive testing is being conducted to identify the specific toxin responsible for the fatalities. He also mentioned that the investigation is exploring the possibility of any malicious activity or intentional harm.Bottom of Form
