Cybersecurity expert Ryan Montgomery has revealed the risks of the "O.MG cable," a device that enables hackers to secretly access gadgets. The cable contains a chip with a web server and Wi-Fi connection that allows for tracking keystrokes and stealing data.
Initially sold in 2019 to specialists for testing security systems, the cable has recently become a tool in the hands of cybercriminals. Once plugged into a device, the cable can remotely control it without the user's knowledge.
Mike Grover, the creator of the cable, explained that its covert design makes it easy to infiltrate devices and operate remotely via wireless connections, enabling hackers to launch attacks from a distance.
A report from the FBI noted that hackers have begun using these types of cables in public places like airports and hotels, attempting to steal data through what is known as "juice jacking."
To avoid these risks, experts advise against using chargers that were not purchased from trusted sources, particularly in public spaces.
