A Glass of Water with Lemon: A Medical Tip to “Trick Time”

Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterology specialist, revealed that drinking a glass of water with a slice of lemon daily may help give you a younger, more vibrant appearance than your actual age.

According to Dr. Sethi, daily consumption of lemon water can reduce signs of aging and improve skin health. He shared this advice with his half a million TikTok followers, drawing from his professional medical experience.

In a recent video, Dr. Sethi discussed the physical changes that might occur after drinking lemon water every day for a month.

“Lemon contains more than 30 beneficial plant compounds. Fresh lemon juice is best, as it hasn’t been pasteurized and thus retains more nutrients,” he explained.

He also pointed out that lemon’s natural acidity enhances mineral absorption, particularly iron, and it's a rich source of vitamin C—vital for collagen production, which is essential for maintaining healthy skin, joints, and connective tissues, according to the British Mirror newspaper.

More Than Just Skin-Deep

While lemon water isn’t a magic youth elixir, it may contribute to brighter skin, support liver health, and reduce damage from free radicals, all of which enhance a youthful glow.

The Chennai Liver Foundation highlights that lemon water may aid in detoxifying the liver, a function crucial to skin health. Since the liver helps eliminate toxins, better liver function often results in clearer, healthier-looking skin.

How to Add It to Your Diet?

Dr. Sethi recommends simply squeezing one full lemon into a glass of water daily to start reaping its potential benefits.

But Is It Safe for Everyone?

Despite its benefits, Dr. Sethi emphasizes that lemon water isn't suitable for everyone. Its acidity can worsen symptoms of acid reflux (GERD) for some people, so it's best to avoid or reduce lemon intake in such cases.

Additionally, the high acidity can erode tooth enamel over time, especially with frequent or large consumption, possibly leading to tooth sensitivity or damage.

If you have underlying health conditions or are concerned about the effects of lemon water, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional before incorporating it into your daily routine.
