An iPhone owner was able to recover his device after it was lost in the sea, thanks to Apple's "Medical ID" feature, which allowed emergency contact information to be accessed, according to a report from 9to5Mac.
The story began when Thiago Itagaki was swimming at Maricá Beach in São Paulo. He discovered a phone submerged about 3 meters deep and roughly 10 meters from the shore. The phone was inside a case that contained three credit cards, and its battery was completely dead when it was found.
Despite Itagaki's attempts to locate the phone's owner among beachgoers, he was unable to identify anyone. After charging the device, he used the "Medical ID" feature, which displays important medical information and emergency contacts directly from the lock screen.
Thanks to this feature, Itagaki was able to call a contact named "Love," which led him to the phone's owner. It turned out that the phone had been lost during New Year's Eve celebrations and had been sitting at the bottom of the sea for four days, yet it was still functional.
This story highlights the effectiveness of the security and convenience features Apple provides to its users, which can help in unexpected situations.
